"But LeoTheEvil! How can something as hugely important as SAVING EVERYTHING be childish!? Surely a task this monumental would necessitate the most professional and qualified adult soldiers to realistically pull it off!" you may be asking me... And my answer is this: For a villain to truly threaten THE ENTIRE WORLD, it has to be someone or something with a level of evil SO ABSOLUTE, that literally EVERYONE, every country, every kingdom, every living being, would have to agree that this villain is dangerous enough to warrant joining forces against it! What I mean by that is that "Saving the World" directly ties into another very childish trope known as "Black-and-White Morality": Clean-cut good guys and bad guys! Heroes who are absolutely good versus villains who are absolutely evil! But why is THIS a childish thing? Try telling a kid that the mook they just killed in a videogame had a family and friends, all Undertale-style! How's the kid going to know what side to root for

...Which is NOT to say it's bad by any means! Far from it! However, do notice those masterfully-crafted paintings, those beautiful sculptures, that colorful and meticulous architecture... NONE of which were a thing in medieval times! In fact, medieval-era art actually sucked. Thus, the works we call "medieval fantasy" are actually more like "renaissance without the guns" (except in the rare cases where guns do get put back in!) Now, I am not one of those Enlightenment dorks, I'm fully aware that the Ancient Greek era was just as bad if not even WORSE than the middle ages, it's just that the codifiers of the Medieval Fantasy genre lived in a time obviously far ahead from it already, and of course they wrote the world as they knew it. Science was not a thing back in those days... Alternatively, when the genre is not "renaissance without the guns", it is more of a "never actually happened" time period...
